CIRCE
From WikiADAPT
Climate Change and Impact Research: the Mediterranean Environment (CIRCE) is an Integrated Project, funded under the European Commission's Sixth Framework Programme.
A four-year, multi-million Euro EC FP6 project involving more than 60 partners in the Mediterranean region that includes Europe, North Africa and the Middle East, CIRCE aims to develop climate projections and assess impacts, including physical and social impacts, in the Mediterranean area.
The objectives of the project are:
- to predict and to quantify physical impacts of climate change in the Mediterranean area;
- to evaluate the consequences of climate change for the society and the economy of the populations located in the Mediterranean area;
- to develop an integrated approach to understand combined effects of climate change;
- to identify adaptation and mitigation strategies in collaboration with regional stakeholders.
The project will run until March 2011.

SEI
SEI Oxford is exploring induced responses including identification and analysis of adaptation options: major contributions have been the Circe foundation paper on adaptation and the climate Adaptation Decision explorer (ADx) prototype tool and concept. For more information please see the Circe foundation paper on adaptation and Decision Making Explorer pages, both of which detail work being undertaken for the Circe project.
A briefing is available here The Climate Adaptation Decision Explorer

Working in collaboration with the sustainable development institute IDDRI in Paris, we also hope to develop some case studies of vulnerability and adaptation in tourism in the Mediterranean through the Circe project. IDDRI have completed a report entitled "The future of Mediterranean. From impacts of climate change to adapatation issues", which provides a synthesis of work on adaptation in CIRCE so far.
In the section below you will find information on a number of case studies, coordinated by local partners, which will inform the use of decision analysis tools, methods and concepts.
Case study briefings:
Here are some briefing notes produced by the CIRCE partners. These documents report climate issues in the case study regions and are organised into coastal, urban and rural contexts. These are background notes for the studies, and as more information is created during the course of the Circe project, more detailed assessments will be added to this page.
